The Ville Platte Native Plant Heritage Garden is located on the east side entrance of town. It has been described by “those in the know” as a mini-arboretum. It only contains plants native to Louisiana. A relaxing trail winds its way through fern beds, a babbling water fountain, a serene fish pond filled with fish that love to be fed bread pieces and bagged dog food, a variety of native oak trees, a model of an Acadian home and much more. Benches dot the garden for your relaxation. An outdoor classroom has been constructed for anyone wanting to teach a class or hold a lecture or meeting. One large prairie plot and a smaller plot were planted to resemble the native prairie areas that dot this area of Louisiana. The plots contain many old varieties of prairie plants that are very hardy to extreme conditions.
Surprisingly, to those who planned the Garden, it has been a fabulous, non-stop stage for photographers who take pictures for such events as weddings, graduations, first communion, engagement, family and more.
